Oblivion Fingers Of The Mountain Quest Walkthrough And Choices
The Chorrol Mages Guild recommendation quest in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion presents players with a moral dilemma involving stolen ancient research and political rivalries. Navigating the conflict between Teekeeus and Earana determines how you acquire your guild recommendation and unlock specialized shock magic. Understanding the ideal steps for this quest ensures you get both rewards without causing long-term issues for your character.
Starting the Chorrol Guild Investigation
To begin the quest line, speak with Teekeeus at the local Mages Guild hall to ask about joining the Arcane University. He will request that you investigate an ousted mage named Earana, who can usually be found at The Grey Mare inn or wandering town. Speaking with Earana reveals that she seeks a powerful tome located high in the Jerall Mountains known as Fingers of the Mountain.
After discovering her intentions, report back to Teekeeus to keep options open for your guild progression. He will urge you to secure the book before Earana can lay her hands on it. Both choices require you to head northwest out of Chorrol toward the frozen ruins of Cloud Top.
Retrieving the Book at Cloud Top
Following the mountain path brings you to Cloud Top, where a charred corpse sits near an ancient Ayleid pillar. Searching the body allows you to retrieve the coveted tome necessary to satisfy both parties. At this stage, you must decide whether to deliver the book directly to Teekeeus or hand it over to Earana first.
Handing the book to Teekeeus yields immediate recommendation progress and extra fame points. However, giving the book to Earana allows her to translate its contents so you can learn a unique spell later on. Most experienced players choose to give it to Earana first, then steal it back for Teekeeus to maximize their rewards.
Unlocking the Finger of the Mountain Spell
If you choose to help Earana translate the text, wait roughly twenty-four hours before returning to collect her detailed notes. Reading her translation instructs you to return to Cloud Top carrying a Welkynd Stone and cast any shock spell against the central pillar. Performing this ritual triggers a powerful lightning strike that grants you the specialized spell reward.
Keep in mind that the resulting spell's magicka cost scales drastically depending on your character level when acquired. Completing the second phase early in your play session provides the most practical utility for spellcasters. Once you return the stolen book to Teekeeus's bedside chest or directly to his hands, your Mages Guild recommendation will be fully secured.
